Hi, I've created a simple bash script to setup the connection between the virtual midi device and fluidsynth before starting jjazzlab. You can find the source code here:
Startup script for qsynth and jjazzlab on linux
I hope it's useful, if any issue or bugfix please comment on the snipped.
Many thanks Federico

thanks I've update the snippet with few tweaks.
It's now using qsynth if found in $PATH. Useful if a custom built qsynth is used (I had to compile fluidsynth and qsynth from source in order to add the jack support).

sure no problem btw, I had some busy days so I couldn't progress in translating the interface. I hope I could resume soon. So far 67% is complete though

@ thedoctor I usually wait to have at least 90% of translations complete to include a new language into the next JJazzLab release.

Hi Jerome and Federico, I'm really pleased at the idea JJazzLab for a comp track in ubuntu, yet I must recognize being a bit frustrated since running the bin/Jjazzlab does not work, nor does Federico' script... what wrong with me or my computer ? (...and shouldn't I practice instead of wasting time with the computer ?) In any case, THANK YOU for your wonderful codes and scripts, and thanks for any effort to make them more accessible/useful. Cheers, Olivier

No one can help you if you don't provide precise information on your configuration, what you've tried exactly, the error messages...

Hi Jerome,
Thanks for the answer. I use Ubuntu 20.04 and followed your instructions, could install soundFont and start QSynth, but Jjazzlab does not start... I do not see the GUI popping up...
Still I think you're doing a great work, and wouldn't like you to be too frustrated at incompetent guys like me. The magic of the internet is that if something is good enough but needs some fixing, someone shows up do the job!
Best,
Olivier

Where did you install jjazzlab ? Which command did you use to start it ? In which directory ? No error message ? Check also the log file (see the FAQ in the online doc)

Dears, new to JJazzLab I needed to understand the rather complex and somewhat dispersed installation procedures.
I have collected all findings in this installer script for Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS:
It is expanding the script from Frederico with some features, that may JJazzLab newbies like me help to by-pass installation pitfalls.
It is automatically downloading, installing and configuring JJazzLab with all required components on Ubuntu.
It is configuring qsynth as per instructions given (jjazzlab.gitbook.io/user-guide/configuration/jjazzlab-soundfont/fluidsynth) (with parameter -qsynth).
It can be run in a terminal in a verbose mode (with parameter -verbose) and will give an indication where things go wrong.
It can also remove JJazzLab and it's components from the computer (with parameter -uninstall).
I would appreciate your feedback; e.g. if it helped to fix some of the installation issues described below.

Thank you very much Volker.
FYI next release JJazzLab 4.0 should be easier to install on Linux, because the app will embed the FluidSynth library.

I had it working that way for a while. worked out of the box for me, currently using Pipewire. Hi, could you share how you got jjazzlab to run under pipewire? I am running it as well, nbut can't find a way to install a virtual midi port (jjazzlab installs and runs fine---there is simply no sound)
