Hi
I am new to JJAZLAB.
My understanding of the software is that I need a Yamaha Style that I can then tweak. Is that correct? But I would like to copy out some bars of suitable tracks from a MIDI song (no style) to create a style suitable for the song. Can I do that with JJAZLAB? If so, is there a tutorial for creating completely custom styles? So practically enter MIDI notes in a DAW, which are then played back in JJAZLAB as a style without using a yamaha style for that? Can I convert the styles from JJAZLAB back to Yamaha styles to use them in the Yamaha keyboard? Yamaha styles have many internal parameters for chord finding (major, minor etc.) if you have looked at Stylemagic for example).

My understanding is that you have to start from a Yamaha style not a midi file. So if you want to create an original style, you have to create a Yamaha style first and then tweak it in Jjazzlab. But you can't convert it back to a Yamaha style since Jjazzlab adds functionality that's not part of the Yamaha style format. I've been looking for Virtual Arranger software that could use Yamaha styles and create its own styles from midi files. The most promising was Giglad but it's still full of bugs (at least the Mac version) and it's far from free. There are various free editing software for Yamaha styles on Jørgen Sørensen's Unofficial YAMAHA Keyboard Resource Site. But when it comes to Yamaha style creating and editing nothing comes easy. I've been using One Man Band Virtual Arranger software to play Yamaha styles for a few years but only recently have I delved into style creation because of the complexity of the task.
