Mick47 - Gday mate: If I understand you correctly, you are trying to play the *.sty files? They are are basically two types of files, - the ones that provide the rhythms and instruments ( the *.sty files) and - those that produce the notes/chords for a song that can be either the songs from the real book (*.sng) accessed from the Open songs choice -OR- Band-in-the-Box files (*.sgu) and others that you import via the Import songs dialog The style files appear in the lead bar of trhe song and sets the rhythm, instruments and feel of the song - see last image. Hope this helps.

Gday Brau Appreciate your help but have had little luck .Can play .sty files but their all the same whatever i pick. Also have to install the program every time i use it?? I think i need to have a "start from Scratch"type tuitororial. The starter video seems to assume you already know your way around all this...as do the rest. Their is also a list of what the functions do but its not very helpful as it doesnt tell you in easy language what it does.

Mick47 -
Style (*.sty) files are there to provide the way a tune is played - for instance you can play Summertime as a ballad, as funk, as rocks, as a bossa. Thast is all arranged by the Style file. If you want to plasy ther style file by itself you have to use synth.
To use the program is made to play a song as a backing track with the rhythm style you select via the *.sty file.
Like any other program you use, once installed it should just work. Please let me know what OS you are using (Win10, Win11, MacOS or Linux - specific distro. Also how you are installing JjazzLab.?
Let me know those things and I will try to help.=, step by step if you need.

hello Mick47, I'd like to add to Brau's good advice: you have to imagine that a Rhythm is your “orchestra” accompanying you, playing the chord progression you have entered in the chord sheet. The screenshots show you the four main steps to get to the WINDOW of RYTHMES where you choose (select) the RYTHME file (the orchestra !) you want. If you want to hear what it sounds like: right-click on the rhythm. If it's OK, click OK - If not, select another one, try it - if ok validate OK button. The file is played at a standard rythm tempo - you can unselect it on the button , left down corner of the window. Good luck & fun with the fabulous Jjazzlab !

Hi Mick47,
I don't understand exactly where you stand... In order to help you, please answer the following questions: 1) have you proceeded and finalized the installation of Jjazzlab? If yes,you should have a keyboard shortcut on yourdesktop. 2 Do you have this shortcut on your desktop? 3) What instrument do you play? 4) do you know chord notation (e.g. C7 Dm6 G7 C )? I look forward to your answers with kind regards hans

Have finalised the program....but have to reinstall from scratch every time.. Have the icon on the desktop. I play the keyboard. I can read music..know chords.
Hans I really just need the steps for adding. sty/yamaha type files. Then I just need the steps for playing those files. This would get me started. Ta Mick Sorry Hans I hadn't look close enough at your attachments.
I still have the problem of having to reinstall every time I want to use it.
