I had some hard time with the midi configuration... If JJazzLab could make things easier on this topic that would be a good thing for beginners like me.

Thanks Simon. The next major version (early 2020) should simplify the Midi configuration. I will also propose a JJazzLab soundfont to have a better rendering of style files.

I'd like to see better support for controlling font size on high-resolution monitors. (i.e., 4K).

Could you please elaborate about the issue ? What OS ? What version of JJazzLab do you use ? If you can post a screen snapshot that would help also. Thanks.

Thanks for JJazzLab ! how is that JJazzLabVST version coming along even if you just had a vst that just sends the VstTimeInfo (play, stop, continue, tempo, time signature etc..) to JJazzLab to sync it with the the DAW host without have to worry about sending midi back to the host it could just send via something like LoopMidi. You could have some midi drag export points for each track or the master to drag direct into the DAW.
Also it would be good if you if you had an option to write the chord names as midi markers on export.
In Options > Chord Symbols you can add aliases but can you add new chords somewhere in a config file ?

That would be nice, but I need help because I'm not familiar with VST... In the meantime it's easy to connect JJazzLab to your VST host via a virtual midi driver (LoopBe etc.). It's doable, but what's the use case exactly ? No. What chord symbols would you like to see added ? The existing list was taken from a New Real Book, it should cover 99% of user needs -and actually the Yamaha style files use far less chords, so adding more chords will have no impact on music rendering. If you're a developer check out the JJazzLab-X GitHub, and feel free to propose a pull request !

Jerome, First of all you did a great initial start that many have tried but only couple of people remain in the game I will start with a "forum" request. "How to make JJazzLab better / Feature request" should be in my opinion a separate forum topic with each request having it's own thread. If you will continue with the project, requests and ideas will get mixed in and it will be hard to navigate and have conversation for admin / users on specific idea. In the email I sent earlier to you I mentioned that it would be a very good idea to introduce more style formats, at least two major ones: Roland and Ketron. Yes, there are "converters" but they are usually make mistakes. AND it is a separate program... I am not scared to use a "converter" but here is what I think... In most cases, individual programmers of musical software do not account for psychology of end users. Having read thousands of posts I came to a conclusion that perhaps only 10-15% of users can/want to explore "alternative options" or use "workarounds". That is understandable. My non-scientific opinion is that vast majority of people who like working with styles / arrangements such as midi arranger styles are ages 40+. So, most of these people have jobs and families. Their expectation would be to sit down and have some fun with program. Sorry, for stepping away from the topic, but I feel it relates. So I do feel that if program "accepts" other arranger formats, it will have much wider audience. Hopefully my first request about a separate Forum section with individual threads for requests and ideas would be fulfilled

Indeed support for Roland and Ketron styles would be a plus. But without specifications of the file format I can't do anything. Note that my personal objective for JJazzLab is to do "better" rather than "more": I prefer to work on algorithms that produce more "lively" music, reproducing the feeling you have when you play with real musicians (dynamics and variety). Others will have different objectives for sure, that's why JJazzLab-X is open-sourced with an open architecture: it's very easy for a developer with Roland style knowledge to develop a JJazzLab plugin. Sure I'll create a specified folder for feature requests as soon as it becomes not manageable on one topic (I hope soon, it would mean there are more & more active JJazzLab users )

In Reaper you can duplicate the chord notes diatonically in the yamaha styles. Maybe you could get it to send or receive midi sync, slave or master. If I want to record some tracks from the exported midi it would be good to have the chords.

I had a look. JJazzLab uses the default java sequencer implementation provided by the Java runtime engine. Unfortunatly this implementation does not support slave or master mode -and I could not find any java implementation which supports these modes.

What would you like to see in future versions of JJazzLab ? What feature is missing in current version ? How to make JJazzLab better ? ... Share your thoughts - The harmony parts (guitar, piano, keys) don’t know the right voicings for the interesting chords (susb9 for instance, but also lydian, sounds pretty bad) does this depend on the style? That would be sad, since it makes it less flexible.
- There seem to be some chords missing, like the beautiful Cmaj7#5, I couldn’t find it in the chord chooser. (Minor, major, dim, dominant...)
- No score or sheet yet.
- everyone uses some kind of notation software (forte, finale, sibelius)... if only a program knew how to play the chords right....
- No xml or mgu import yet
- Holds, pushes... don’t seem to apply to the drums
If JjazzLab played the chords right, could import mgu or xml, I would rather pay a decent price, than have it for free with a lot of things missing.
On the other hand, there seems to be some promise here - Odd meters! Modern jazz needs this, badly!
- Simple GUI
- Song structure is simple and allows a lot of options
- Great, easy soundfont (not High Quality, but decent and GM compatible)
- Underlying “harmony” (it interprets susb9 correctly as phrygian, but forgets phrygian natural 13, the second mode of melodic minor) is intresting. It could develop in much more sophisticated accompaniment.
- If you want to develop as a musician, you need the sophisticated chords. Though JjazzLab is not there yet, it surely has great potential.
I always wished for a great jazztool without all the audio and needless features

There is an API to set the sync mode, that's why at the beginning I thought it could be a low-hanging fruit... Unfortunatly, as I told before, the implementation is not done. If someone wants to do it this is the code to start from: RealTimeSequencer.java

Hi Dzjang and thanks for joining ! Voicings: you're right there is a LOT of room for improvement. Sometimes even a 9th chord does not sound good. I have the musical knowledge for this (though not on guitar), but turning this knowledge into algorithm is not trivial. Plus it depends how the style was written. Right now the algorithm is generic, i.e. it works for any chord symbol/any instrument. To go further I need to specialize things, ie if susb9 and piano do this and that, which can be time-consuming, so there must be some trade-off... Anyway, if you have specific examples which sound really bad and are often used, please post a song exemple, this will help me getting started. I'll add C7M#5, in the mean time use E/C. Strange, it should apply. Please post a song example. Print, Import BIAB/XML: yes on the to-do list
