@ javispainNot in the next version, although there will be a better Midi In support. Maybe the version after ? What do you mean ?

HI JEROME.
Marker:
Instead "Theme 1 2 3" "Solo 1 2 3"... If we can write personal words there to watch in our own songs structure Merci

Hi Jerome.
One more suggestion: Have the possibility to use more than two styles in the same song. Normally, JJazzLab only allow 2 differents styles (until 16 midi channel are full) My suggestion is If more JjazzLab styles could replace those midi channels every time the software call one different style. Is like a dynamic use of midi channels for the instruments.
Thanks again
Javier

No, the markers are not intended for this, their only use is for substitute chord symbols: jjazzlab.gitbook.io/user-guide/songs/song-editors/chord-lead-sheet#substitute-chord-symbolBut why don't you just change the song part name ? You can call it whatever you want ("chorus 1", "solo guitar"), and if you select several song parts and change the name, JJazzLab will draw a line below the name which lets you select the group of song parts. See image below an example. (by the way this is a sneak peek of JJazzLab v3 ) The 16 channel limit can't be easily overridden...

Hi Jerôme!
A new question.... Could be possible to change the GM Instrument Voice in any moment of the song? For example, Change Grand Piano in "Verso" by Honky Tonk Piano in "Chorus" and again...
Thanks

Hello Jerome,
MANY thanks for JJazzlab; it is the first time I get a software arranger working, and it is great!
I am missing some keyboard shortcuts: spacebar works all right for play/pause, but I commonly want to go back to the start of the song, and cannot find a key for this (I am on Linux). I understand (after reading this thread) that ctrl + space reads from the current bar, and that it is possible to navigate the bars and use this. However, it would make sense to make this super easy, via a key which works wherever the focus is? Are there other keyboard shortcuts? Are they documented somewhere? Thank you for attention, and for a great program.

@ javispain Not possible with current version, maybe in a future version. @ pottoka yes, shift-space does that, but it's in the next JJazzLab version 3.0, you need to wait a little bit Maany shortcuts are documented at the end of each editor page in the online doc jjazzlab.gitbook.io/user-guide/songs/song-editorsIf you notice a keyboard shortcut is missing, feel free to add it, anyone can update the online doc (see the Contribute section for how to).

I'm new to JJazzLab but I'm a long time BIAB user. I love having this program available, because I can set beginning improv students up with this without them having to invest a bunch of cash.
Changes I would suggest:
Transposed visual chord changes. I teach improvisation and I work with mostly Eb and Bb wind instruments, so being able to transpose the chord changes to Bb, Eb, G, and F instruments would be great. I'm not talking about changing the concert key...that's already there. But to show the changes in the alto sax/tenor sax (etc) keys would be really helpful. And I think the chord entry should match the visual key. In BIAB you might be looking at chords in Alto Sax key, but you still have to enter them in concert. That's weird, to enter Eb7 and have it show up as C7. Chord entry should match whatever transposition the user is looking at.
user pre-selections for substitute style. when I open songs from, for example, the JJazzLab real book archive, many songs use styles/rhythm files that I don't have. And the automatic substitutions are way off sometimes. It would be good to be able to say "when you see FastSwing.xyx.sty use FastJazz.abc.sty instead." A custom user list of substitutions. And that could be in the form of a file that people could share.
Live looping. A way to set up a section with infinite loop until user hits a key. If using this program live, it would be good to leave the number of repetitions of a section (or sections) open, so that players can decide real time how many choruses they want to play. Perhaps a user defined key (SPACEBAR) to say "This is the last chorus" for this section.
Style Change Lead In. When doing a tune like Green Dolphin Street, which can change from Latin to Swing every 8 bars, it would sound more realistic if the change to swing or latin could optionally start a few beats early. THANK YOU for a terrific program. I was a C/ObjectPascal/Java programmer for 16 years. If there's any way I can help in future, let me know.

>Transposed visual chord changes.
I assume you already use the "playback transposition" button (the one with a sax). One thing that might help, use Ctrl-D to duplicate a song, and transpose all chord symbols (select all chord symbols then mouse-wheel), so you could have one song for playback and one for reading (not perfect I know).
user pre-selections for substitute style. JJazzLab is delivered with a limited set of Yamahas styles. The JJazzLab real book was done before that, that's why some real book songs sometimes use styles which are not available anymore. I don't have time to manage this real book, but if some users could replace all the "old styles" by styles present in the JJazzLab package, that would be nice. .sng files are xml files (text files), so one could use unix tools like "sed" (replace string by another in files) to automatically replace an old style by the right one in the 2000+ .sng files. If someone sends me an updated .zip file, I'll put it on the web site.
Live looping.
Click on the loop button (or press L), make a selection, and right-click "Play selection". Space bar already works for play/pause.
Style Change Lead In. Just create an additional section at the start of the lead in, so you can change the rhythm.
Most of the JJazzLab code is open-source and available on GitHub (JJazzLab-X). I would love to have more contributors, it's in Java... CHeck the online developer doc. JJazzLab 3.0 will be out this year, with improved API.

Hi Jerôme!
One more suggestion..
I think it could be more useful to change "tempo" not in "%" but in real numbers (120 ---> 130 , etc)
Thanks
Javier

The problem with the transposition, if I understand it correctly, is it is backwards for some things. If I play alto sax and I'm looking at concert chord changes, when I click the little saxophone "current playback key transposition" icon, it actually changes the concert key. But horn players want to change the visible chord symbols and leave the song in concert key. In other words, sometimes we need to transpose the visible chord symbols but leave the MIDI key the same, in Concert pitch.
I can read concert on alto sax fine, but my students can't. So I need to always have a hard copy available if we are using JJazzLab. But it would be nicer to read it off the monitor.
Am I missing something here?
- Doug

USERSTYLES INSTRUMENTS/DRUMS
To have more variation of playing than the keyboard styles with the actual chord, you could allow users to create and share userstyles that they can create as single instruments/drums. These can be added to a current keyboard style or all tracks. These can be made up with all the commonly used chords in a linear pattern or actual progression in a key, this way if the progression matches the users progression then that section can be fitted.
Maybe it could work the same way and have makers in the midi file for the chord name and section type ? as most DAW's will write midi markers or load the track into JL enter the chords, save and as JL will now export the chord markers with the mid from the suggestion I gave, you will have the midi file with chord markers ready to use.
So you import the midi file into a track and JL will fit it to the chord progression.
The pic shows the source file then fitting it to the chord progression with a Lua script, I just used a csv along with the midi or wav file but just midi markers should do the job for JL. some are in a scale and the others chorded.
That along with the syncing VST that I'm sure you will get around to doing one day Look Out !

Hi Jerome! Great software! Only TWO things to be PERFECT: 1. A Midi channel to send the song CHORDS while the song is running 2. To have the possibility to USE Rhythm´s STYLES FROM another dealer: KETRON / KORG / ROLAND Thanks in advance Javier "1. A Midi channel to send the song CHORDS while the song is running"
This can be used to send the held chords to a virtual instrument via LoopMIDI etc.. and also exported as a held midi chord track for use in a DAW to drive Virtual Instruments with chord input like UJAM Guitars/Basses, Native Instruments Session Guitars, MusicLabs RealGuitars, EZKeys/Bass etc.... and you will have the midi markers with chord names in it. Also have an octave setting for the chord track.

Hello all and first of all, thank you very much for creating JJazzLab. I found out about it yesterday and tried it on Linux. My thoughts for improvements on Linux are
JJazzLab only appears to support sound output to pulseaudio in Linux, which means that there's a lot of audio latency.
This is not a problem when using JJazzLab to only play backing tracks and using an acoustic instrument to jam, or if you have a hardware synth running through a hardware mixer to mix the audio of JJazzLab and the hardware synth, but it becomes a massive problem when you are trying to play a virtual instrument running on the same computer or when you run an electric guitar through the soundcard input, due to the audio latency problems when using Pulseaudio.
People who use Linux to produce & make music will generally use jack audio, which takes care of these issues.
Would it be possible to, or are there plans to add jack audio support for JJazzLab under Linux? For example, Tux Guitar has a set of plugin modules that performs such a function.
